For Feet’s Sake
A recent issue of Consumer Reports Health suggests the following steps to prevent or heal common foot complaints.
1) Wearing shoes indoors helps protect your heel and toe and maintain balance and stability.
2) Orthotics may help relieve discomfort related to corns and other feet ailments.
3) Inspect your feet from time to time for signs of abnormalities. Skin cancer, among other systemic conditions, may manifest on the outer extremities.
4) Regularly soaking your feet in warm water can bring them back to life after a long day. For ideas on various footbaths, read this month’s Spa Élan column, “Feet Treats,” page 114.
5) While a good soak is important for healing your tired feet, be sure to dry them well, too. Excessive moisture can encourage fungus and infection.
